Knife Care & Safety
Every Niko Forge knife is individually handmade and designed to be used and enjoyed for years to come. With a little care and regular maintenance, your knife can remain a reliable companion for a long time.
Cleaning & Everyday Care
Always wash your knife by hand using mild soap and warm water.
Dry the blade and handle thoroughly immediately after cleaning.
Never place your knife in a dishwasher or leave it soaking in water.
Apply a light coat of suitable oil to the blade occasionally to help prevent rust and corrosion. For kitchen knives, use food-safe mineral oil.
Keep your knife clean and dry between uses, particularly after contact with moisture or acidic foods.
Different types of steel may require slightly different care. Always follow any additional instructions provided with your knife.
Handle Care
Niko Forge knives are made with a variety of handle materials, including wood, leather and other natural materials.
Avoid prolonged exposure to water, excessive heat and direct sunlight. Keep handles clean and dry, and use a suitable conditioning product occasionally where appropriate for the material.
Sharpening & Maintenance
A sharp, well-maintained knife is safer and more enjoyable to use than a dull one.
Sharpen your knife when needed using an appropriate sharpening method. Avoid excessive grinding or unsuitable sharpening equipment that could damage the blade.
If you're unsure how to maintain the edge, you're always welcome to get in touch for advice.
Safe Handling & Storage
Always handle knives carefully and keep fingers away from the cutting edge.
Use your knife only for its intended purpose.
Never use a knife as a screwdriver, pry bar or other improvised tool.
Avoid cutting materials that could damage the blade, such as bones or frozen food, unless the knife is specifically designed for that purpose.
Always cut on a stable surface and away from your body.
Keep knives securely stored and out of reach of children.
Use a suitable protective sheath, blade guard or safe storage system when the knife is not in use.
Leather Sheaths
Some Niko Forge knives are supplied with handmade leather sheaths for protection and convenient carrying.
Keep leather sheaths clean and dry, and allow them to air-dry naturally if they become wet.
Avoid storing your knife in a damp sheath, as trapped moisture can cause corrosion. For long-term storage, keep the knife clean, dry and protected from moisture.
